About the Owners
John Murk worked for the Port of Oakland, RT Spragens had a printing company. Calliope was his nineth (and last) boat.
About the Boat (History)
John Murk bought and shipped boat to Alameda, CA. Living next to the Oakland YC, John became a live-aboard and eventually sold boat to RT Spragens. Dick changed name from Serenity to Calliope due to memories of summers listening to Calliope music at the East Coast boardwalks. Boat was moved to Benicia, then to Antioch, CA. Mary and Rich bought Calliope and are now addressing several years of deferred maintenance. Mary fell in love with the Pilgrim level layout and when Dick, a close boating friend, decided to sell, bought Calliope for "when Rich is too old to sail". Rich thinks Mary is very smart but hasn't stopped sailing, yet. Boat will continue cruising the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta and SF Bay areas. Calliope is berthed next to River Otter, hull 26.
